Charm Health signs up Icon Cancer Care for oncology solution roll-out

Queensland-headquartered oncology systems vendor Charm Health has signed an agreement with Brisbane's Icon Cancer Care to roll out the Charm oncology information system across the group's six day hospitals.

Icon Cancer Care runs five private day hospitals in Queensland, including one near the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, one in the Mater Medical Centre in South Brisbane, others in Southport, Townsville and the Brisbane suburb of Chermside, as well as one centre in Adelaide.

The initial five-year contract will assist in the management of more than 77,000 patient treatments each year across the six hospitals.

Charm is a comprehensive solution designed to manage the clinical and administrative coordination of all aspects of cancer care. It has about 50 installations around the country and last year signed a master agreement with Healthscope to allow any Healthscope hospital offering oncology services to implement Charm.

It has also developed a rapid deployment methodology that was piloted at Healthscope's Newcastle Private Hospital in 2014 that allows the system to be implemented within six months of contract signing.

It was also rolled out at five different sites for the Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Services (GRICS) in 2014, and there is an agreement to integrate Charm with the EHS clinical information system from Emerging Systems, which is owned by Telstra Health.

Charm Health CEO Gary Lakin said the partnership with Icon highlighted the increasing demand for more precise management of cancer care.

"Icon is the fastest growing private provider of cancer care in Australia," Mr Lakin said in a statement. "We are looking forward to working with a company of such high calibre and strong vision.

"We developed Charm as a tool to support good clinical governance and mitigate the risks inherent with the complexity of cancer care. The agreement is a great endorsement of our solution, in addition to our deep understanding of medical oncology management."

Icon Group CEO Mark Middleton said the company had conducted an extensive search and evaluation process in Australia and the US over the last 18 months with Charm eventually selected as the preferred provider.

Mr Middleton said Charm's systems, reporting and analytics will help provide additional tools to support Icon’s clinical governance."
