Fund Raiser for Cancer Research – A personal challenge for a Charm Health Staff Member

From July 1 – 8 Alyssa Coe, one of our Project Managers at Charm Health took part in ‘The Italian Dolomites Smiddy Challenge’ in a quest to raise funds for world class cancer research projects at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane.   Cancer Research is a cause very close to Alyssa’s heart with a background as an Oncology nurse and now a Project Manager implementing an Oncology Information System, she is all too familiar with the challenges faced by patients and families dealing with cancer as well as those working to deliver quality cancer care.

The Dolomites Challenge tackled some of the world’s most iconic cycling routes, averaging 100 kilometres per day and ascending over 15 000 metres, this was a serious cycling challenge.

Alyssa commented after her return from Italy;

“I'd wanted to ride in Europe for years and this was the perfect opportunity. Backing up each day for six days was hard, but the spectacular scenery and the support of the group kept me riding. But besides the mental and physical challenges it is good to know that the funds we raised will help all the beneficiaries of the Mater Foundation.”

Smiling for Smiddy honours the memory of Adam Smiddy, who passed away to an aggressive cancer in 2006 aged just 26. Close to $6 million has been raised for cancer research and support services since.
